This is the final image. My unit 2 project is somewhat inspired by the notes we took in class on Impressionism--their portrayal of contemporary life and landscape, the way in which they freely painted light in such a colorful manner. I tried to incorporate what I learned from this into my project. On that note, one thing I wish I would have done differently is I wish I had used lighter or more watered down colors. I forgot to take progress pictures, which is unfortunate, but the actual sketching/painting process only took me about 2-3 days. I thoroughly planned out my composition this time, though, which really helped me (that was something I struggled with in the unit 1 project). This project really taught me a thing or two about patience, though, and trusting the process.
These are the three images I used as references. I pulled bits and pieces from each one of them, although the composition was mostly inspired by the third one.
These are two pieces made by my current artist, Hannah Pickeroll.
My current artist that inspired this project is Hannah Pickerill, she’s a watercolor artist I’ve been following for a while. She specializes in landscapes and scenery, though. She makes tutorial videos for her pieces on TikTok, too, which I think is cool. When I read the description for the project, she immediately came to mind because she’s always so calm and collected when she paints, despite watercolor being something I’ve personally found frustrating. I also wanted to go in a more serene direction with my project, which she emanates really well.

These are two pieces made by my master artist, Vincent Van Gogh
My master artist that inspired this piece is Vincent Van Gogh. Although he hardly needs any introduction, he was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who produced nearly 150 watercolor paintings in his lifetime. He inspired my piece because watercolor wasn’t necessarily his strongest medium, but he still did it. Watercolor definitely isn’t my favorite, but I found it very peaceful towards the end. Also, in class we replicated a few of his watercolor paintings, and while doing so I picked up a few tips and tricks I used in this project.
